Sky nature
competition
Brief
As part of a university project, I entered a sky channel branding competition. The aim was to come up with an "AWE-INSPIRING" and "VIVID" concept for Sky's new nature channel. Sky nature is a channel dedicated to exploring the beauty and wonder.
In response to this brief, I came up with a concept called "Our World"

Brand idea: Our World
The concept was based on"Perspective". Perspective has many forms. Seeing the world from the perspective of animals allows us to understand and somewhat experience how they live. It allows us to connect to them. I felt like this concept met the criteria of the brief because it explored the natural world.

People are always fascinated with things they can't really experience themselves. This is part of the reason why documentaries on streaming platforms have risen in popularity recently. Whenever Netflix, Hulu or even the BBC release a documentary show on their platforms, it creates a buzz on social media, because people are generally interested to know how certain real-life events happened. I think the same can be said for nature shows and documentaries. People want to see and understand how animals live and how the world around us works.

Ident ideas
The main theme of the brand idea is perspective. So i wanted this theme to be reflected in the idents. The idea of the idents is to have a first person view (FPV) of Animals in different environments. Maybe theres three different idents showing the fpv of three different animals (Bird, Polar bear, fish?) This idea was inspired by Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong video game, where most of the game is played from the perspective of different animals. The sky nature logo would be embedded in the scene of the ident.

I also created a graphical language/device to be used across the channel branding package. Because the theme of this concept was perspective and the world of animals, I thought it would be a good idea to use a circle for the graphical language. The idea was that an opening circle brings us into the world of animals and nature. The circle acts as a “portal”. I used this circle device in the menu ident, bumper idents, posters and social media/online ad & features.

Colours and Logo
The colours represent different biomes and elements of nature such as Earth, sky (Air) and Sea (Water). there are so many different colours that can be used to represent animals and nature. I decided to combine some of these with a gradient. The blue represents the sky, light blue represents the sea and beige colour represents the land. One of the other reasons i decided to use a gradient was because colour gradients are a direction of a range of colours. The colours often move in one direction, which can be used to symbolise a "journey". “The sea that binds together the Earth and the sky, whom in all eternity will never mingle".
Social media and promotional Content
The idea of First-person view idents, opened up the possibility of implementing things such as AR (augmented reality) Technology for social media branding and games. For example: Using AR with a smartphone camera to insert or place the user into the animal's environment. User can use a smartphone to "explore" surroundings and interact with animals. Google already uses this kind of technology with its search engine. You can Google search any animal and google will provide an option to view that specific animal in real size using AR. You can interact with animals. This inspired me to create an AR Instagram filter game about animals in their environment also created some social media features for the channel branding package. Below are style frames of social media features.
